Gorey Chamber questions new Post codes.

By admin | September 21, 2009

Post Code Plan Ignores Current Problems.

Business would prefer to get current service right.

Nightmare of E Voting could be repeated!

Plans by Central Government to impose a new Postal Code system on the country by 2011 have been questioned by Gorey Chamber Executive, Dick White. Currently Ireland is one of the few developed countries not to have a post code or zip code in operation with a cost of €50m  being suggested to have this system put in place.

Speaking from his office , in Gorey Business Park, Dick White commented “ This idea has been mooted in the past and shelved as unnecessary at the time. From a micro business point of view, the postal system is an essential tool in delivering a quality service to business. It would be my view that the current system should be developed to its full potential, prior to imposing another line of meaningless letters and numbers which will put another barrier up for prompt delivery”

Continuing, White noted “With daily queues being experienced by customers outside of Gorey Post Office on the Avenue, overflowing post boxes on our streets and an inadequate level of service being experienced, it would be our view that these problems need to resolved before persisting with this idea”

Concluding, White added “Given the debacle with the voting machines in the past, it would be a major worry that this idea could end up in another nightmare for all of us”

IDA to release its property back to the Local Authority.

By admin | May 28, 2009

IDA to release its property back to the Local Authority.

Failure of IDA action sees new recommendations.

In July of last year, 2008, the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment visited Gorey as part of their Report of the Delegation on the Dublin Commuter Belt Zone.

Gorey Chamber has strongly welcomed the recommendation contained in the report issued on the 28th of May which urges the return of IDA lands which are currently lying unused or underdeveloped to be returned at cost into the ownership of the local authority and used for enterprise purposes.

Speaking, Gorey Chamber Executive, Dick White commented, “We strongly welcome this recommendation in the report. The IDA lands on the Courtown Road have been lying idle for far too long and not benefitting the Town in any way. This is a prime site for economic development for North Wexford and must be used to create sustainable employment.”

While noting that it would be better to allow the IDA develop the lands themselves, White added, “ Of course it would be ideal if the IDA faced up to its responsibilities and developed the lands themselves, but God knows they have been sitting on an idle site for far too long and this transfer would finally see action”

Continuing, White added, “Gorey Chamber is prepared to put the full weight of its membership and that of the whole business sector here in North Wexford behind this initiative and we look forward to seeing real progress delivered swiftly.”

Given the current economic climate, Gorey Chamber, is pleased to see that the continued work of the County Enterprise Boards is to be supported and expanded and that Business Start Up Supports actively being reviewed, include a sustainable rates strategy.

Gorey Chamber Side Steps Man U Clash.

By admin | May 20, 2009

Gorey Chamber Side Steps Man U Clash.

International Sport and Business very nearly came to a head on clash with Gorey Chambers, local election Public Meeting originally scheduled for the 27th of May having to be moved to avoid a clash with the Champions League Final between Manchester United and Barcelona.

As part of Gorey Chambers public service remit, a Question and Answer session has now been organised in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey on Monday next the 25th of May at 8pm.

This is very much seen as an opportunity for all the local community to air current local issues and concerns with a selected panel of political party representatives.

But the potential clash with the Champions League Final, puts into perspective the draw of international soccer versus the appeal of local politics!

Is it a side step too far?

Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association Seminar

By admin | March 26, 2009

Thanks to the team from ISME for coming down to Gorey yesterday to give our members a talk about doing business in recession time. It was a very informative evening and we have taken away some valid points about how to downsize but also how to grow a business in hard time.

Thanks again

Dick White
