Chaired by Chamber Executive, Dick White, the panel consisted of Robbie Ireton, Declan McPartlin, Malcolm Byrne, Ellen Lynch and Michael Carty dealt with a series of questions ranging from Urban Status for Gorey, right through to housing issues in North Wexford.( See attached Questions) While the attendance was on the small side, a good level of discussion was had on the evening with a number of issues clarified. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Questions Asked…..QUESTION 1Over 2000 people currently living in Housing Estates have no vote in the Town Council Election.Why are people from The Paddocks, The Heath, Clonattin Village etc. Excluded? Particularly as it was promised to be corrected at the last local Election. Does the panel agree that this was just another series of, PROMISES, PROMISES ! QUESTION 2Why is Gorey not treated as an equal with Enniscorthy, New Ross and Wexford?We cannot raise Rates and generate income to be retained in the town. Does the panel agree that we need Urban Council designation now? QUESTION 3Why are funds generated by our Rates not spent in the Town.QUESTION 4Can we get a guarantee from the candidates and all parties that the Historic Market House, which will celebrate its three hundred Birthday this year, stays in Public Ownership and used for the good of the community.QUESTION 5Could the panel clarify what has happened to the inner relief roads and Traffic Management Plan promised two year ago with the opening of the N11 by pass?QUESTION 6With a 32% increase in the Town Population and a 26% increase in the district, why have we seen NO improvement in Social Facilities for the young and old? QUESTION 7Why did you enter local politics and will you be a full time representative? QUESTION 8Does the Panel agree that pedestrian crossings more important for Public Houses rather than Primary Schools? QUESTION 9With many deserving cases needing rehousing in the district, why do we have vacant houses, owned by the Council all over the area? QUESTION 10From Robbie to Bobby, is this an electoral strategy? QUESTION 11We already have 166 TD’s and 60 Senators in Leinster House, 8 of them in this country. Why do we need a further 5 County Councillors and 9 Town Councillors to do the same work? QUESTION 12Assuming you are all successful in this election, what is your long term electoral ambition? QUESTION 13Does the Panel agree that given current economic conditions is it not time for the 6 acre IDA site on the Courtown Road to be returned to local ownership, thereby allowing real job creation at a local level. |
